Description

Celebrating 15 years, the 2019 Kick the Flu Summit will convene medical, health, and community service providers from both public and private sectors to share information, collaborate, and strategize about how to promote and increase the rate of flu immunizations throughout San Diego County during the 2019-20 influenza season. The Summit is presented by the San Diego Immunization Coalition (SDIC), a community group that consists of now over 1,100 immunization partners from over 160 partner organizations working together to identify and develop approaches to raise immunization coverage for all residents of the region.

Because of the everchanging landscape of each flu season, we encourage as many health care and social service providers to attend. An epidemiological report will be given about the 2018-19 influenza season, as well as the flu products available for the upcoming season.

This year, we will focus on addressing flu vaccines during pregnancy and addressing flu vaccine hesitancy.

Our guest speaker is Neil Silverman, MD who practices at the Center for Fetal Medicine and Women’s Ultrasound in Los Angeles, where he provides consultative care for high-risk obstetric patients on a daily basis. He is also a Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology/Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, in which capacity he helps train residents and fellows from UCLA’s OBGYN department as well as coordinates research projects with them.

The keynote speaker is Karen Ernst, MA who is the Executive Director of Voices for Vaccines. While her background is in teaching high school English, she has a passion for preventing the spread of infectious diseases. Karen most recently spoke at the ACIP meeting in June 2019. She lives with her family in Minnesota.
